press release from the Harvard Health Letter recently came out that was interesting. It reports that Americans consume some 100 pounds (!) of sugar per person, per year. Many people don't realize the calories they consume in soft drinks and even in sports drinks that are touted to be healthy. When people take in these extra calories they don't restrict their intake elsewhere to compensate.
One result? Women who drink one or more sugar sweetened dirnks per day at 83% more likely to become type II diabetic.
